Samsung has finally launched it’s most powerful Note Series smartphones with upgraded features and specification. Samsung has launched 2 smartphones in this year’s note series, First is Samsung Note 20 and other is Samsung Note 20 ultra.
Here are the highlights of both phones:-
Design and Display
Both Samsung Note 20 and Samsung Note 20 Ultra offers Amoled panels with punch hole cameras on the front but there is a huge difference between the displays of these smartphones.
Vanilla Note 20 offers a flat display with 6.7 Inches AMOLED panel with standard 60hz refresh rate which is a bit of surprise as most phones at this price point comes with at least 90 hz display. Display on Note 20 offers a 1080 p+ (Full HD+) resolution with Gorilla Glass 5 for the protection.
Samsung Note 20 ultra offers a higher 120 hz 6.9 inches curved Dynamic AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution hence the difference between these displays is huge and easily noticeable.
If we talk about the build then Samsung has added a plastic back on the regular Note 20 which is a downgrade from last year’s regular Samsung note 10 device which was having a glass panel on both front and back.
Samsung Note 20 Ultra is the first device to have latest Gorilla Glass 7 on both front and back of the device.
Cameras have been improved on both Note 20 and Note 20 ultra but difference is again huge as regular Note 20 offers triple camera setup same found on S20. It packs 12 MP main sensor with f/1.8 aperture and Dual Pixel auto focus with OIS, Secondary camera on Note 20 is 12 MP, f/2.2 Ultra wide angle camera and the third camera is 64 MP telephoto camera which offer 3X optical zoom and 30X digital zoom.
Samsung Note 20 ultra comes with huge 108 MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture which similar to the camera offered on S20 Ultra but it has an extra Laser AF to fix the focus issues found in S20 Ultra.
Secondary camera on Note 20 Ultra is 12MP Ultra wide camera and Third camera is a 12 MP periscope camera which is capable of 5X Optical zoom and upto 50X digital zoom unlike 100X zoom on S20 Ultra but the results at 50X are better than 50X on S20 Ultra.
Both devices can record videos upto 8K at 24fps which is insane.
Front cameras are similar on both devices as both features 10MP f/2.2 punch hole cameras which can record upto 4K@30/60fps.
Again the camera is superior on the Note 20 Ultra as the Note 20 just offers the camera setup similar to S20.
Performance, durability and Software
Both Samsung Note 20 and Samsung Note 20 Ultra ships with Exynos 990 processors in India and Europe while it comes with snapdragon 865+ in USA. Performance is again adequate on both devices but it is not as fast as the snapdragon 865+ found on OnePlus 8 Pro
Both devices comes with Android 10 with OneUi. Both Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are IP 68 water and dust resistant.
Battery and Charging
Samsung Note 20 comes with 4300 mAh battery while the Note 20 Ultra comes with larger 4500 mah battery. Both devices comes with 25W fast chargers out of the box. Both devices offers 15W wireless charging and 9W reverse wireless charging.
One of the most important reason to buy Samsung Note Series has always been the S Pen found on these devices which is very useful.
S Pen on Note 20 Ultra has been significantly improved as it will have 9ms of latency while the S Pen on Note 20 will have the 26mm latency same as Note 10 plus.
Spen on both devices is Bluetooth enabled and consists accelerometer and gyroscope and also comes with Air Gestures to click selfies, swiping on the screen, scrolling though the web pages.
Other Features and connectivty
Both Note 20 and Note 20 ultra offers USB Type C port, UFS 3.1 storage and very good stereo speakers. Both devices offers Bluetooth 5.0 and in display ultrasonic finger print sensor for the biometric verification and also features accelerometer, proximity, gyro, compass and barometer
Samsung Note 20 starts at 77,999 Rs for the 4G only variant which comes with 8GB RAM + 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Samsung Note 20 Ultra starts at Rs 1,04,999 for the 5G variant which comes with 8GB RAM + 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Regular Note 20 seems to be a downgrade from last year’s Note 10 with lower resolution screen, plastic back and same 60hz refresh rate and camera is also similar to S20 only, so at almost 78k rs I won’t recommend this device unless you are only looking for S Pen at lower price point.
If you are in the market for the best android phone packed with almost every single feature available on the smartphones these days and budget is not an issue for you then definitely checkout the Samsung Note 20 Ultra.
