Indian Government on 29th June 2020 banned 59 China based apps, including immensely popular apps like TikTok used for the making/editing videos, Share it (used for sharing file between devices), CamScanner (used for scanning documents on mobile).
The ban has been imposed under Section 69 A of the IT Act, 2000 (“Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource”).
The Government of India in a statement said that it has received a lot of complaints for misuse of these apps for stealing user’s data and sending the data to the servers located outside India.
What is Next?
Government will ask Internet Providers(ISP) to ban these apps over the mobile networks and broadbands. Once the Inter service providers block these apps, the apps will stop working on their networks.
